Greetings,

This message is to inform our associated projects that they can now choose
Software in the Public Interest as a fiscal host in the GitHub Sponsors
program.

If your project is using GitHub as their primary repository or as an
official mirror, consider configuring it ─ the setup is simple and it
allows the project to collect donations directly through GitHub.

Instructions for projects can be found here:
https://docs.github.com/en/sponsors/receiving-sponsorships-through-github-sponsors/using-a-fiscal-host-to-receive-github-sponsors-payouts

If you are a donor, you now have the option to sponsor SPI directly through
our GitHub page, available at https://github.com/spi

This provides yet another way to support our associated projects and SPI
itself, to make the donation process easier for our donors who prefer to
use GitHub. Projects aren't required to use it, and you can still donate to
projects via PayPal or Click and Pledge normally. If you wish to donate to
a project via GitHub, contact the project you wish to donate to about this
possibility.

Please let me know if there are any questions.

Regards,

Jonatas,

that's great news!

I'd suggest to also allow sponsoring individual projects instead of SPI (if possible). I believe some sponsors would like to sponsor a project specifically - the same way as it is by using https://www.spi-inc.org/projects/ .

Regards,
Marcel

Yes, of course ─ the projects need to follow the instructions in the first
link to configure their own GitHub repositories to collect donations via
SPI.
The setup guide is pretty intuitive, but we are available if there are
questions; from projects or from donors alike.

That's exactly what Jonatas is describing. Projects can add GitHub
Sponsors on their profile, using SPI as fiscal sponsor. Donors will
give to the projects. The money will go to SPI, with a note that it's
for the project.
